News for Kawa Kon 2010:

Kawa Kon announces performance and workshop by Bunraku Bay Puppet Troupe

Kawa Kon 2010 is slated to be the first anime convention in America to host a bunraku performance! Bunraku is the Japanese theatre art of manipulating life-like puppets to perform traditional stories and legends.

The Bunraku Bay Puppet Troupe, based in Columbia, Missouri, has trained under some of Japan's oldest bunraku troupes and boasts the title of the only puppet troupe in the United States that performs traditional Japanese bunraku. They are excited about the performance at Kawa Kon because they have never gotten a chance to perform for an anime convention audience before.

The bunraku performance and hands-on workshop will take place only on Friday, March 12, 2010 and will give both anime fans and their parents an educational and magical evening. Because a one-day pass to Kawa Kon is less than a typical night at the theatre, parents and other family members may want to come along to experience this rare artform.
