News for Northern Michigan Anime Convention 2009:

Northern Michigan Anime Convention announces guest Vic Mignogna

Traverse City, MI – The Northern Michigan Anime Convention has announced Vic Mignogna as special guest for their August 8th and 9th convention in Traverse City.

The convention will host special guests from the anime industry and feature anime screenings during both days of the event.

Well-known voice actor Mignogna is best recognized for his role as Edward Elric in the anime "Fullmetal Alchemist", which was a nationwide hit when it aired on the Cartoon Network's adult cartoon block, Adult Swim.

Fan favorite Baka Savant Productions, will return as special guests again this year. Baka Savant produces "Chronicles of the Annoying Quest", a parody series on YouTube using video game animation to tell stories, fast becoming a popular way to direct videos online.

NMACon will feature a new event this year: Cosplay Arena. Cosplay Arena will involve convention attendees battling in a video tournament as the characters their costumes represent.

The convention will also feature a special event taking place, real-time during the entire NMACon. This event is still a secret and will not be revealed until opening ceremonies.

Other planned events at NMACon include tabletop gaming sponsored by Gaming for a Cure and Mr. and Mrs. NMA, touted as, "like prom king and queen for those of us who never stood a chance".

The event cost will be $25 to attend for both days of festivities, or $15 for just one day.

A percentage of NMACon's profits will benefit Gaming for a Cure which holds game tournaments in Northern Michigan to fundraise a cure for Cancer.

NMACon is the official convention for members of the global anime community of Ani-Pock (www.ani-pock.net).

Anime is a type of cartoon from Japan, typically with more grown-up themes, often based on manga books. Manga is the written and drawn counterpart to anime and can be likened to comic books especially for older readers.
