News for San Japan 2009:

San Japan announces 2009 convention date

Convention returns to the Riverwalk in August 2009 and sponsors one day convention in March 2009

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - December 5th, 2009 - San Japan, San Antonio's major Japanese Culture and Anime Convention, has announced the date for its 2009 convention. After a successful convention with over 3500 total attendees for its first year, San Japan will be returning to the world famous San Antonio Riverwalk. The San Antonio Municipal Auditorium and El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel will host the convention on the weekend of August 14th - 16th, 2009.

San Japan will be bringing back popular events introduced at the inaugural convention including Otaku-lympics, an enduring otaku competitive event along with Ani-Idol, a karaoke and singing competition. Many other details with new additional events for the upcoming convention guests along will be posted over the next few months on the official San Japan website at www.san-japan.org.

Pre-registration will be open at the end of 2008 starting at an early bird price of $25 for a three-day event pass if purchased before February 15th, 2009 and $35 up until July 15th, 2009. Three day passes will be available at the door of the convention for $45 along with individual one-day passes. Hotel rooms will be available at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel for a special convention rate of $114 per night.

San Japan also is working with the Our Lady of the Lake University Mizuumi Anime Club to sponsor a one-day anime convention. Mizuumi-con, previously Zero Day Anime, will take place on the Our Lady of the Lake campus on March 21st, 2009. Activities schedules include a Cosplay show, panels, a dealer's room, dance, rock concert, and cultural events. Industry guests currently attending are Josh Grelle and Kevin M. Connolly. Local Japanese Rock cover band 'Knuckle Sandwich' will be performing at the convention along with Texas DJ group AVTactics hosting the dance. This is a charitable event with proceeds returning to OLLU. Admission is $10 for an all access pass. For more information visit mizuumicon.san-japan.org.

San Japan, LLC, is a not-for-profit organization devoted to bringing an appreciation of Japanese culture "state-side" through a variety of high-quality educational activities and entertainment events. In addition to the planned annual convention, San Antonio's first major Japanese culture and Anime convention, San Japan also participates throughout the Alamo City in a number of events such as the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures Asian Cultural Fair and the Mizuumi-con (previously Zero Day Anime) event hosted at Our Lady of the Lake University.
