News for New England Fan Experience 2008:

Anime Kaiju Experience hosts mini-manga/doujinshi contest

Calling All Unpublished Manga Writers, Artists, and Future Manga-ka

Cambridge, MA - October 3, 2008 - The Anime Kaiju Experience announces a quick draw contest, only 30 days to produce and enter an original short work manga (aka. comic or graphic novel). Fans of sci-fi, fantasy, anime, kaiju, pop culture or technology, are invited to create an original eight (8) to twelve (12) page short manga, including cover and back page. Creators do not need to attend the convention to enter, and there is no fee to enter. AKE will accept more than one entry per person, whether that is as an individual or part of a cooperative artist-circle effort. All entries must be received by November 8, 2008 to be considered.

The winner of this competition will have his/her doujinshi published as part of the Anime Kaiju Experience collectible program. And all entries will be displayed in the Art Show, and then returned to the artist/writer following the convention. There is no age limit, but if an entrant is under 18 a parent or legal guardian must also complete and sign the official entry form, which is available at the Anime Kaiju Experience website. Since this will be published as part of the official program of the Anime Kaiju Experience, it can be considered a salute or acclamation to the manga and doujinshi of Japan, so a right-to-left presentation is acceptable, but not required.

Judges for this contest will include the Anime Kaiju Experiences special guests: Steve Horton, who wrote the book Professional Manga: Digital Storytelling with Manga Studio EX. He is also the writer of the Image Comics manga Strongarm and the webmanga Grounded Angel on graphicsmash.com. And, Sam Romero a skilled manga artist who has done work for 2000AD, Webcomics 2.0, and has his own incredibly popular webmanga Edge the Devilhunter.

What to enter:
1. Write and illustrate an eight (8) to twelve (12) page (no less, no more) manga that is a self-contained story
2. A cover page as page 1. An author's page and acknowledgements should be the last page.
3. This must be an original creation, no fan-fic.
4. It must never have been published before, not on paper and not on the web.
5. It would be rated E for everyone to T for teen. No young adult or mature content.
6. Items which violate copyrights or trademarks, or are deemed libelous or obscene will not be permitted.

Further information can be found about the specifics of mailing and other requirements by going to the website at www.animekaijuexperience.com. Complete the official competition entry form (which you'll find there) and mail the completed form in the same envelope as the manga/doujinshi.
