Born in Yamagata, Japan, in 1968, Koike began his career at MAD HOUSE after his graduation from high school. His debut as an animator came in Yoju Toshi, which was directed by famed director Yoshiaki Kawajiri, in 1987. Koike's first wholly original anime artwork appeared in Midnight Eye Goku, based on Buichi Terasawa's story. Koike's career as an animator advanced rapidly, from Jubei Ninkacho (a.k.a. Ninja Scroll) to Vampire Hunter D and others, most of which were directed by Mr. Kawajiri.

In 2000, Mr. Koike's outstanding talent and creativity were showcased when he became animation director and assumed responsibility for character design for the theatrical film, PARTY 7, which utilized his animation in its opening sequence. Koike's artwork also was used in part of TRAVA Fist*Planet, a music concert by SMAP, one of Japan's top music groups. Koike garnered international attention for World Record, his contribution to The Animatrix a collection of several animated short films, detailing the back-story of the Matrix universe, and the original war between man and machines, which led to the creation of the Matrix.

Currently, Mr. Koike is energetically working on a number of projects, many for MAD HOUSE.
